Landfill Tax – are you minimising your liability?

26 Jan 2012

The final landfill data for 2011 won’t be known for another couple of months, but it looks as though there is likely to have been a 15-20% decline in general waste to landfill compared to 2010. This will see a fall to around 23m tonnes for the year for the UK as a whole, a remarkable drop from 51m tonnes in 2001. Of course, the rate of decline has accelerated in recent years as the annual increment has risen to £8/tonne.

The figure currently stands at £56/tonne and you are reminded that on 1 April, it rises to £64/tonne. Of course, this is only for waste that goes to landfill and DS Smith Recycling is committed to minimising that wherever possible down to zero to landfill through our extensive and comprehensive recycling services.
